As the name suggests, it's dirty music for beautiful people, something that may not apply to those who haven't been to bed for a couple of days, but nonetheless captured the imagination of their peers. The post-work shindigs, designed for locals, were embraced even by wandering tourists looking for something a little more consuming than the two for one offers of San An. As the night?s reputation extended, so too did its popularity, although it wasn't until after the close of the 2005 season when the cauldron truly started to boil over.
Having publicised their UK re-unions as early as September, there were few living the Ibiza life who remained oblivious of the FG banner. And when it came for the London leg of the tour, at Pacha in London, the party's expectations were bitten off, chewed up and spat out sparkling with a freshly glowing tint of success. They sold out the guest-list, by a lot. Around three hundred people couldn't get in, and those lucky enough to pass the bouncers were witness to one of the parties of the year. Cooped up in the upstairs room, there were queues to get a piece of the action all night. To say it 'kinda went off that night' would be like saying the world wars 'kinda had an effect on world history'.
Numerous dates nation-wide followed, and FG were no longer a well-kept secret of the White Isle masses. With a dynamic marketing initiative (stickers, tash-a-thons etc) it was only a matter of time before they struck gold, and when their back-room slot at Meganite was announced in March, the only surprise was the speed of their transition.
Sticking to the mentality that has fuelled their ascent, do not expect to see big names clogging up the line-ups. It?s Island DJs only, proving unanimously that although their audience has risen exponentially, their egos and attitudes remain grounded, as too does their status as (first and foremost) a Workers Party. Thus they will retain a following capable of energising the most sombre occasion, so expect an intimate, bouncing atmosphere that, sweets or no sweets, will welcome strangers with open arms.
If you've ever wondered what it's like to work in Ibiza, therefore, now is your chance to find out what it would feel like, for one night only. (you too can be an Ibiza worker)
